TRAVEL Airplane travel

On a flight, whether you choose a window or aisle seat, it is fair to say that each has their own set of pros and cons. Those who are proponents of the aisle seat will typically say things like they've easier access to the bathrooms on a flight, have potentially more leg room and are the first passengers to disembark after a long-haul, crowded journey.

Lovers of the window seat will, of course, mention the gorgeous views, somewhere to lean on and rest for a bit of shuteye, and no one bothering you to move.

Seat sales often show that the aisle seat is, in fact, more popular among travellers, according to USA Today, is there one that is in fact, better?

When it comes to safety, there is one that is the clear winner: the aisle seat. While the chances of your airplane going down are extremely slim, in the event of a crash, your survival rate goes up from 58 to 64 per cent if you are seated in an aisle seat. The research pulled together by the University of Greenwich, had a look at 105 accidents all over the world along with compiled reports of more than 2000 accident survivors.

One thing is for sure: either is better than the dreaded middle seat!
