Multi-talented actress and writer Lena Dunham has just recently tried her hand in fashion—however it hasn't worked out too well for her! Her collaboration with the clothing company Revolve has resulted in a series of sweatshirts with incredibly offensive slogans stretched across the front being put on social media. They include hateful slogans such as "being fat is not beautiful it's an excuse," "slut feminist nightmare," and "if you translated a bum onto her face, she'd have a better face".
Her new collaboration with American fashion retailer Revolve was initially supposed to be an empowering project which reclaimed the words of online trolls. Each sweatshirt was emblazoned with phrases directed at Dunham, as well as other celebrities including Cara Delevigne, Emily Ratajkowski and Suki Waterhouse.
Every. Stupid. Time a brand does this I wonder about product, marketing, PR, creative, web & leadership teams that don’t have the wit or the balls to speak out. #PRFail #PR101 #brand #marketing cf #Pepsi #HandM #Revolve @lenadunham right to be mortified. However, when the sweatshirts were released without any explanation, the slogans just came across as bullying. Dunham also objected to the use of "thin white models," stating in an Instagram post that due to the "lack of diversity in representation" she "cannot support this collaboration or lend [her] name to it in any way."
Revolve has since issued an apology and withdrawn the sweatshirts.
However this has brought up a lot of controversy for Dunham, as her series 'Girls' was frequently criticized for its lack of diversity. There have been several comments on her Instagram highlighting this fact, pointing out that while she's all about diversity now, "when [she was] in a position of power and able to control it with [her] show GIRLS, still every leading role was white."
Fans anxiously await the actress's response to these comments.
