If you are lucky enough to take a day off during the working week, and you get to choose the day in question, it can present quite the dilemma. Will you skip the Monday blues or do you prefer an early weekend by skipping Friday? While both options are tempting, you may want to consider a more tactful approach.
Taking a day off can be a very strategic decision. We often save them to combine with holidays and it’s especially popular to use them to extend the weekend. This makes perfect sense when you’re going out of town, but which day is best when you simply want to get some much-needed rest?
While we generally hate Mondays and thank god for Fridays, it’s not necessarily a wise decision to take those days off. The reason we despise Mondays so much is that we get used to a different rhythm and way of life during the weekend, making it difficult to adjust back to office life. By extending the weekend, we generally won’t be any happier once we’re back. If anything, it becomes even harder to get back into ‘workmode’.
That’s why it’s advisable to break your workweek in half by taking off Wednesday. This way you minimize the buildup of stress throughout the week. Monday and Tuesday will fly by and once you’ve had your Wednesday rest, the weekend is just around the corner.
It benefits both your personal and professional life, as you’ll be less stressed out and more effective in the office.
